In 2008, when Sheila was asked if she would like to volunteer at The Soup Kitchen, she jumped at the opportunity to help those in need and get to know others in her community. In 2009 she joined the Board, where she served as Chair and Secretary. In 2010, the manager of The Soup Kitchen stepped down and Sheila was appointed as Operations Coordinator. She oversees the day-to-day operations, with each day’s team leaders reporting to her. Sheila is also the Wednesday team leader. The knowledge that she is helping those experiencing hunger, along with the feeling of belonging to a greater community, continues to keep Sheila volunteering with The Soup Kitchen.
