For 44 years, our dedicated volunteer-run team has provided a warm meal and a welcoming place for anyone experiencing hunger in Victoria — seniors, youth, low-income workers, those unhoused, and others living at risk. While we may be a small organization, we are mighty in our commitment to feed our community with care and dignity.
After watching 2 men digging in a dumpster, founders Murray and Edna Black, opened The Soup Kitchen on November 12, 1982. They welcomed hungry local residents with a hearty soup, nourishing without judgement.
Today, 44 years later, their fierce determination to make a difference in the lives of those in need continues.
Hot soup made fresh every morning, a meat and cheese filled sandwich, and a hard-boiled egg. Two fruits, a sweet, and hot tea or coffee – and often a special treat – completes each meal.

As an essential food resource for downtown Victoria, The Soup Kitchen relies on the support of over 120 dedicated individuals, drawn from across the community. Our volunteers are kind, eager to serve and have a heart for the community. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers.
