Gerry began with The Soup Kitchen in 2018 when a friend, Pat Plunkett (a former Board member), called and asked him to volunteer one morning when they were short staffed. Gerry stayed on as a spare until COVID hit, and then he moved into a permanent role on Thursday mornings as a team leader – working behind the scenes in the kitchen. He was elected to the Board in 2022. Gerry has been involved in many volunteer opportunities over the years and finds it very satisfying and rewarding. Along with The Soup Kitchen, he currently volunteers with the local genealogical society and organizes regional science fairs. Prior to retirement, Gerry was a chemistry faculty member at the University of Victoria.
